The ATA has worked diligently and in good faith to negotiate a new Artists’ Manager Basic Agreement with the WGA. While the ATA offered fair and comprehensive proposals designed to protect the best interests of writers and artists, WGA’s leadership has focused on aggressive tactics, dramatic rhetoric and litigation. Prior to the ATA’s first formal meeting with the WGA, the Guild had litigation drafted and ready to go, putting into question whether it really wants to make a deal, and instead focus on a costly legal battle.

WGA leaders cut off negotiations, forced writers to fire their agents and are now pursuing lawsuits against agencies on behalf of a handful of showrunners. Knowing that it could take months or even years for this litigation to be resolved, WGA leaders are unnecessarily forcing their members and our industry into long-term uncertainty.
